Beauty editors love these ingredients – and so do we!

How many times have you read about or heard ‘buzz’ words in skincare and wondered “what does that even mean?”

Beauty editors love to spruik the benefits of certain ingredients and so-called ‘miracle solutions’. It’s easy to take this on face value and search the shelves for products that contain these ingredients, but have you thought about what they actually are and how they can benefit your skin?

What are the benefits?
We’ve selected a few of these ingredients to take a closer look at what they are and
what they actually do for our skin.
    • AHAs – alpha hydroxy acids are water-soluble naturally-occurring substances found in fruits, sugar cane and sour milk. Glycolic acid is an example of an AHA. • BHAs – beta hydroxy acids are known as salicylic acid. They are oil-soluble, which means they can cut through the skin’s oil and get deeper into the pores. This is great news for those prone to acne and blocked pores.

    • Retinol – often championed for its ability to fight the signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, retinol is a pure form of vitamin A. It’s a potent ingredient, which helps to resurface and rejuvenate the skin, making it appear more youthful.
